"Do you still think of yourself as a studio shooter?"

I posted some of my images on Facebook and this was one of the comments.

A bit of backstory.

I had been commenting for years how I was a studio shooter and really disliked the results I get while shooting in the streets.

My outside shots were just taking studio techniques and moving them out of doors.

I have always admired street shooters....I just had never been able to "see" it.

I think this might be changing.

There is still a lot for me to learn, but I think I am starting to get a feel for the image developing...to visualize the shot...before all the elements come into place.

I spend a lot of time and effort on pre-visualizing... getting the backgound, set and lighting just right... when I have the time and control that the studio offers.

The ability to start to see the "decisive moment" developing on the street, were I have no control, is exciting, and very difficult.

I Just wish I could do it on demand.

This might be caused by the fact I have not been in a studio for months.

There is an expression that "if all you have is a hammer then everything looks like a nail"....maybe since I now just have the streets of Tokyo as my visual stimulus, my brain is getting wired that way?

I still don't consider myself a street shooter, but I now get a few hits along with my many misses. Maybe some day...... -

Glenn: I believe that you are a talented "street shooter". Let it come from inside of you...don't be caught up in the technique...you HAVE the technique and ability, now trust what is coming from inside...the desire and passion to just take that shot! XX
